The Marauder's Map: DVD track index for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

DVD list and notations explained - The Akashic Record - More HP stuff

Specimen: Region 1 widescreen

Special note on the tour interface: When using tours, if you see a green down arrow on the screen, it means that you can use the down arrow on your remote to highlight details in the picture. When a detail is highlighted, use the enter/play button on your remote to get a closer look at it. Keep pressing the down button to cycle through all the details and return to movement mode. (Sometimes you can also use the other direction keys, but not always.) In one case it's actually the up arrow that's green, in which case you need to use the up arrow on your remote to get to the details, but you still have to use the down arrow to get back to movement mode. Also, while the details accessed in this way will send you back to the menu you accessed them from, if you jump to the detail tracks from somewhere else, the detail track will play and then go back to the lead-in for that viewpoint. For instance, if you are halfway down the hall in the Chamber of Secrets tour, and look at the snake head detail there, you will get a basilisk factoid and then be returned to that point. However, if you jump to the track with the factoid, the track will play and then you will get the transition from the first viewpoint to the one halfway down the hall.

Disc 1 index

This disc starts by going to title 2.

Title 1. Actual movie; the chapters are listed on the DVD box.

Title 2. WB logo, MPAA rating information, introductory montage, then main menu.

Title 3. Special features menu. If you jump into this title rather than using the main menu, you get to see a copyright warning in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Title 4. A sort of reminder trailer for the first movie, ending with a plug for the second movie.

Title 5. An FBI warning regarding unauthorized copying, then a similar Interpol warning in English and French, then to the special features menu (3.1). You can get here by watching past the movie credits and the Monk's Reward.

Title 6. One of the three trailers released for this movie (the first of them, I think), after which you are returned to the special features menu (3.1)

Disc 2 index

Title 1. Root menu for this DVD
1. Introduction
2. Actual menu. Where the root menu for PS/SS extras DVD made it clear where all the menu items were, this one has been, um, improved by hiding them around the scene so that you have to just click around randomly to find them all. Roughly from top to bottom, they are:

Title 2. Lockhart's classroom
1. Transition from root menu
2. Menu

3. Root menu again, switches to the main copy (1.2) after 30 seconds
4. Transition to the narrated portrait gallery slideshow, which occupies chapters 5-16. You can skip ahead and back with the arrows at the bottom of the pictures, but can't freeze it. Yes, you did see several of these pictures moving in the movie, but here you'll only get stills.
5. Lockhart in an aviator outfit
6. With a trophy and fireworks
7. Gilderoy of Arabia (actually, the combination of wizard garb and traditional tribal dress gives him the unfortunate appearance of being David Duke of Arabia)
8. Gilderoy of Arabia II
9. Posing with an owl in a rocky area somewhere
10. At the helm of a sailing ship
11. Taking tea
12. Sitting on the troll from the first movie
13. Doing some fancy flying (from the Magical Me poster in Flourish and Blotts)
14. Posing with a wineglass
15. Looking sort of normal or something
16. Back in the aviator's outfit, after which you go back to the classroom menu (2.2)
17. Tour of Lockhart's awards, including some never mentioned in the book, then back to the menu (2.2). This track is notable in that you can use the freeze-frame, rewind, etc. buttons.
18. Plug for Lockhart's books, back to menu (2.2)

Title 3. Extra credit - the PC features, although you can view a promo on your DVD player.
1. Scroll unrolls

3. Scroll rolls back up
4. Root menu, back to 1.2 after about 30 seconds
5. Transition to the promo (47.1)

5. Transition to the Rowling/Kloves interview (14.1)
6. Transition to the Dumbledore's Office menu (8.1)

5. Generic transition to the various menu items, takes you to 19.1 if you jump directly into it

Title 20. Forbidden Forest challenge: navigate the Ford Anglia through the Forbidden Forest. Periodically you will get a chance to turn by pressing the right or left arrow key on your remote. Three wrong turns and you get eaten by spiders.

If you make a wrong turn, the car loops back to an earlier part of the route. I've grouped the routes into sections according to what track the car loops back to if you go wrong. So, in the first section, if go the wrong way at one of the first three turns, the game goes back to chapter 13; the next four, going the wrong way loops back to chapter 35; and so forth.

There are actually two ways to make a complete trip through. The first begins by going forward from the introduction (chapter 1) into chapters 12 and 13.

From chapter 13: left, right, right
From chapter 35: right, right, left, left
From chapter 76: left, right, right, right, and then you escape.

To start the second, jump to chapter 119 where you get yelled at by the Howler, and then the car will start on its own. The sequence of turns is the same, but the first two sections loop to chapter 3 and chapter 49. The third loops to chapter 76 as before.

There is a third startup sequence at chapter 23. Go right, left, right, and then follow the instructions from chapter 35. There are also three segments you can't reach from any of the startup sequences.

Orphan sequence #1, starting in chapter 62 and looping to 63: right, left, left, and continue as in the first sequence from chapter 76.

Orphan sequence #2, starting in chapter 90 and looping to 91: right, left, right, right and you will escape from the forest.

Orphan sequence #3, starting in chapter 104 and looping to 105: left, right, right, right and you will escape.

Chapter 118 is where the spiders get you. Oh, the clue to tell you which way to go? Just before you come to a fork in the road, a spiderweb will flash by on one side. Go in the other direction.

Title 21. Colin's Darkroom. Here you can assemble your own slideshow by selecting from menus of pictures, then view it by going to the main menu and selecting the empty frame. You can select up to 20 pictures; if you reach 20, the slideshow will start automatically. Selecting the potion bottles will send you to a "random" slideshow (kids, please don't take this as a suggestive metaphor)-- actually a randomly chosen one of three pre-assembled slideshows, at 21.184, 21.204, and 21.224.

The picture menus are all three tracks each. The first track is the menu itself, the second runs the camera effect, and the third is unreadable if you jump straight into it. If you jump into one of the tracks with the large versions of the pictures, your DVD player may freeze up completely.

A lot of these were promotional pictures released before the movie came out, so if you have been a big reader of movie news, there is not a whole lot of new material for you here.
